Blurring the line between wander and wonder: The Moonlight Forest
We continue to explore Southern California with the idea that we would feel bad if we left and said, I wish we would have done that, or gone there. The Los Angels Arboretum is a fantastic venue to see natural habitats from around the world, but mostly Southern California. Last year we saw advertisments for…

Blurring The Line Between Wander and Wonder
We decided to take a trip to see Haley at Dixie State University in St. George Utah. It is a 6 hour drive from Big Bear. We let Michael know that it would be a great time to visit family and oh, by the way, we could go to Zion National Park because it was…

This is How I Remember it
Entry 22 By the middle of August Mom returned to her place in Flanders Music. Musical instruments started to be delivered which was a healthy thing for the bottom line. Dad and I could relax and turn our attention to what kept the store an interesting lifestyle for us. During the middle 60s the record…

It doesn’t get much better
Even as a boomer back in the 60s, my Mum taught me that ‘a good musician is a good musician’. I never forgot that. There were extremely few finer musicians than Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington.

Always finding new music
One essential thing I learned from my Mom was that if someone is a good musician they are worthy of a listen. Our good friend Marilyn Graham recently introduced me to Gregory Porter. I’ve been listening to him often lately. Some ‘throw-back’ elements but new stuff that is genuine and honest.
