The official proclamation from the Federal and State governments is that today USA flags should be flown at half staff in observance of September 11, 2001.

For all of us who remember exactly where we were and what we were doing when we heard the news, it is still difficult to see this image.

In November of 2001 a businessman, a Veteran, was sitting in a restaurant and scribbled down a design of a flag when he was thinking about 9/11. He kept thinking about it and his idea became The Freedom Flag, the unofficial (some states have even made it official,) flag to September 11, 2001.

In true Vexillologist style, a person had an idea to create something that symbolized something that was important to them that they thought would be important to others, thus the birth of a flag.
