The sovereign island nation: Saint Lucia. Located in the West Indies of the Eastern Caribbean Sea. It is one of the Windward Islands

It is named after Saint Lucy of Syracuse. It is the only country in the world named after a woman. St Lucia was fought over by the French and British for many years. The British designed a few different flags for St. Lucia.

Like all of the islands in this region, St Lucia is a volcanic island. It is recognized for the two mountains called the Pitons.

English is the ‘official’ language with 95% of the people speaking Saint Lucian French Creole. The people call their language Patois. It is interesting to hear it spoken and you have the feeling you are in Louisiana hearing someone talk in New Orleans.
The national flag, designed after the British gave it it’s independence, is a Cerulean blue field charged with a yellow triangle in front of a white edged black isosceles triangle. The blue of the sea with the Piton Mountains in the forefront.
We visited St Lucia 16 years ago and have talked about it ever since. The people were friendly and memorable. We would return in a heartbeat.
