The Climate Warming Stripes Flag. (As described by my good friends, Michael and Cassie from ‘Flags For Good’): “Climatologist Ed Hawkins designed the “Warming Stripes” (also known as “Climate Stripes”) as a visualization of our planet’s warming over time. The progression from blue (cooler) to red (warmer) stripes portrays the long-term increase of average global temperature from 1850 (hoist side of the flag) to 2018 (fly edge). This graph is a beautiful way to display a terrifying reality.”

I find it fascinating that I have lived for seven decades and been here long enough to hear a young voice speak up and tell the world: “This is not right. We cannot continue to ruin our planet with reckless life choices. Our house is on fire!”

“This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be up here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean. Yet you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you!
You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet I’m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!” (Addressing the UN)
Look, my generation, the ‘Baby Boomers’, messed it up. Our lifestyles have ignored good stewardship. It is time for us to get out of the way to let Greta’s generation address the solution. I am grateful that I have been allowed to witness those committing themselves to stewardship.
