What Flag Is That 11.08.21

The First Nation Peoples of Canada, representing all of the Indigenous people of our neighbor to the north. Today, November 8, is ‘Indigenous Veterans Remembrance Day in Canada. The Canadian National flag was lowered to half staff at sunrise and will remain so until sunrise November 9.

In 2017 Prime Minister Justin Trudeau declared the summer solstice as National Indigenous Peoples day. This was in support of reconciliation with Canadian Host Nation people and in agreement with the United Nations resolution in 2007 called The Declaration of Rights of Indigenous People. The declaration delineated the core rights of Indigenous people. It “emphasizes the rights of Indigenous peoples to maintain and strengthen their own institutions, cultures and traditions, and to pursue their development in keeping with their own needs and aspirations” It “prohibits discrimination against indigenous peoples”, and it “promotes their full and effective participation in all matters that concern them and their right to remain distinct and to pursue their own visions of economic and social development”.

In my opinion , I believe that a certain American Holiday in October should be changed to the ‘American Indigenous People’s Day’. Today, In respect and to honor my fellow veterans to the north, I say: “Sister and Brother Canadian Indigenous Veteran, Thank you for your service”.
