British Armed Forces Day (the equivalent of our Veterans Day.) It commemorates the men and women who have served in the armed forces of the United Kingdom. In 2006 it began as ‘Veterans Day’ then in 2009 the name was changed to “Armed Forces Day’, and it was designated as the last Saturday in June.

The reason for the date in late June was because it is the anniversary of the first awarding of the Victoria Cross in 1857. The award was given for ‘Valor in the presence of the enemy.’
