This Rock doesn’t roll

In the Mojave Desert outside of Lander California sits the largest single rock (bolder) in the world : Giant Rock California.

It covers 5,800 square feet and is 17 stories high.

It has a strange, colorful history that includes UFOs and a guy blasting a tunnel under it to build a place to hide then blowing himself up under the rock after being wanted by the sheriff. Kids come out and paint graffiti on it regularly. At one time it had an airstrip right next to it and was used as an emergency landing site for planes in Southern California.

In 2000 one side of it mysteriously split exposing beautiful granite inside.

You can’t beat Southern California for the weird and wacky.
