What Flag Is That 03.05.21

House Targaryen of Dragonstone. A noble family of Valyrian descent who once ruled the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. It eventually became the first royal house of the Seven Kingdoms, as House Targaryen of King’s Landing. The motto befits the people and their nature: “Fire and Blood”. In the capital city of King’s Landing was the location of The Red Keep, home of The Iron Throne.

The Targaryen’s were not a pleasant lot. Since this is a fictional flag of a fantasy land, here are quotes from the book describing The Targaryens: “Treachery was a coin the Targaryens knew well.” Robert I Baratheon. “Every child knows that the Targaryens have always danced too close to madness.”Barristan Selmy

Due to the popularity of the TV series ‘Game of Thrones’ a character that came from the House of Targaryen and was a major character of the books was Daenerys (Mother of Drgons and the Unburned.)

Daenerys is a ‘dark horse’ candidate to be the one who sits on the Iron Throne, thus winning the Game of Thrones. Because HBO rushed to finish the series there is great debate about how they have the ‘Game’ conclude. Denise was incensed and thinks the TV show should have waited for George R R Martin to finish his books before foisting something on the watching public.

Here are words by and about Daenerys (‘Danny’). “Why do the gods make kings and queens, if not to protect the ones who can’t protect themselves?” Daenerys to Jorah Mormont. “You are her perfect prince, agreed, bright and bold and comely as any maid could wish. Daenerys Targaryen is no maid, however. She is the widow of a Dothraki khal, a mother of dragons and a sacker of cities, Aegon the Conqueror with teats. She may not prove as willing as you wish.” Tyrion Lannister to Aegon Targaryen

Denise patiently explained each episode of Game of Thrones to me as we watched each week. The flag flying on our front yard flagpole is a real attention grabber.
