What Flag Is That, August 9, 2020

The Royal Standard of the autonomous region of Spain called Castile and Leon. Two cultural identities united since 1230.

These two distinct communities have a long history in world events. The flag is is a quarteredcoat of arms. The Lion circa 1126, from the coat of arms of Alfonso VII. The Castle is from his grandson, Alfonso VIII of Castile. In 1230 Ferdinand III united the regions and the flag was designed.

The Spanish influence remains in the United States with a number of cities or states keeping the coat of arms in their flag.

The flag of the city of Los Angeles.

In the late 1400’s an ‘explorer’ and business man talked the crown of Castile and Leon into sponsoring him on a business trip. There is no doubt it was completely about the finances everyone hoped to reap from this exploration.

Yes, that is Mr. Columbus carrying the Royal Standard of Castile and Leon

Columbus bumping into ‘the new world’, probably The Bahamas, began the genocide of every person the white Europeans came upon. Columbus gave all Host Nation people the name ‘Indios’ which became Indian. As Randy Newman sang, ‘the great nations of Europe coming through.’
