Here in Big Bear we have an area called the Pebble Plains. It is a place like none other in the world. A combination of clay in the soil and the quartzite pebbles left from the ice age have created a plain where trees can’t grow but small plants with spectacular tiny flowers thrive. This is the only place in the world these flowers can be seen.
They are called ‘belly flowers’ because you have to crawl on your belly to get a picture. I used my new Nikon 5200 camera and a special macro lens to get this shot of a Douglas Violet.
