What Flag Is That 08.20.2025 The Palestinian Pele

The Flag of Palestine. A tricolor of three equal horizontal stripes (black, white, and green from top to bottom) overlaid by a red triangle issuing from the hoist. This flag is derived from the Pan-Arab colors and is used to represent the State of Palestine and the Palestinian people. It was first adopted on 28 May 1964 by the Palestinian Liberation Organization.

The Palestinian people as well as world football (soccer) fans were shocked to learn that the most famous footballer from Palestine, Suleiman Obeid, was killed on August 6.

Obeid had five children and with the current situation he, along with all of Gaza, was desperate for food. He traveled to the city of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza because he heard there was possibly a chance to find food. At the food site Obeid was killed when an Israeli drone dropped bombs on the people seeking food. According to the UN’s latest figures, at least 1,373 Palestinians have been killed since May 27 while seeking food.

Posting on social media after Obeid’s death, UEFA stated: “Farewell to Suleiman al-Obaid, the ‘Palestinian Pele’. A talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times.”

The star of the Premier League team Liverpool, Mohammad Salah, criticized the league statement because it did not mention how Obeid was killed. He strongly felt the world needed to know how his friend died.

One month into the conflict Obeid’s home was bombed and he lost everything. This photo shows him with one of his children sitting on the rubble. His brother was killed soon after so Obeid took responsibility for finding food for his brother’s family also.

At 6:00 am on August 6, Obeid left his tent and headed to the United States and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation aid distribution centre, which the Israeli army would open at 9am. He wanted to be there in plenty of time. At 8:15 am he was sitting on the ground waiting for the center to open when the Israeli drone dropped the bomb that killed him.

Obeid’s widow, Doaa spent the night in the morgue with the body of her husband.

Following Salah’s criticism, UEFA displayed a banner at the European Super Cup final that read: “Stop killing children, stop killing civilians”. Two refugee children from Gaza were also involved in the medal ceremony. The league received heavy criticism and was accused of antisemitism.

Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?” were the questions asked by Salah in his post. Obeid’s family and friends say he died in an Israeli strike while waiting for food at an aid station near Khan Yunis. The why? “I don’t have the answer,” says Al-Amur. “The answer is with the Israeli army.”

It has to stop.
