Today is a major holiday for Flag Nerds in England. It is National Historic County Flag Day. You’ve never heard of that one…too bad, it is a Biggie.

Surrounding the Parliament Building in downtown London they are flying flags of Historic Counties. I have most of them in my collection and have flown them on my lanai and posted them on this blog.
Historic Counties Flag Day is a grassroots initiative launched to celebrate and raise awareness of the traditional counties of the UK—many of which date back over a thousand years. On this day, flagpoles across the country, including those at the UK Parliament, local councils, and historic buildings, proudly display the registered flags of the historic counties.

With such a rich history of great flags it is a day dedicated to showing off the design and symbolism of good flags.

From across the big pond I say, ‘Jolly good on ya.’
