What Flag Is That 11.02.2024

The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal (Nepal). A country in South Asia that includes mainly the Himalayans. It is landlocked with Tibet to the north and India to the south.

Nepal includes 8 of the 10 highest mountains in the world, including Mount Everest. The etymology of the name is not known with theories including the base ‘Ne, who was a Hindu Sage who protected the area, another explanation being the idea that the word comes from ‘Nipa’ meaning ‘foot of the mountain’ and ‘ala’ meaning abode – thus the home at the foot of the mountain.

The flag is the world’s only non-quadrilateral flag. It is a combination of two separate pennons (pennants) thus becoming a double pennon. Red represents bravery, and it is also the color of the national flower, the rhododendron. The blue border stands for peace. The top pennon has a white crescent moon with eight rays extending. The bottom pennon has a sun with eight rays shooting out. The idea is that the moon and sun stand for permanence, Nepal will last forever.

An interesting non traditional flag. I like different, and this flag is definitely different. And besides, without Nepal my Grandmother’s old neighbor would not have had a hit song…

Happening currently in Nepal is the festival known as Tihar. “Tihar (also known as Yamapanchak) is a five-day spiritual and culturalHindu festival of lights celebrated by Nepalis as well as by the Indians-inhabiting Sikkim state and Territories (particularly the towns of Darjeelingand Kalimpong). Tihar is analogous to the Indian festival of Diwali, the festival of lights, but both are different Festival.”

“Tihar is the second biggest Nepali festival after Dashain, and is usually allocated a three-day-long national holiday. The festival is considered novel in that it shows reverence to not just the gods, but also to animals such as crows, cows, and dogs that have long-lived alongside humans.”

In addition to lights and celebrations of various creatures, the festival includes elaborate works of art created on the family’s floor.
