A grateful thank you to The Colorado Switchbacks Football Club for the opportunity to see our old hometown Detroit City Football Club at beautiful Weidner Field in Colorado Springs. When you first walk into the stadium you are met by a sculpture called “The Epicenter”. Commissioned by Dean Weidner, the stadium’s namesake, it is a sight to behold and grab a reflective shot. Weidner Field is the highest elevation professional soccer stadium in the United States at 6,000 feet.Weidner is home to the Colorado Switchbacks who play in the United Soccer League, the USL Championship, the second tier of US professional soccer. It was the 2024 home opener for the Switchbacks.
The match was The Switchbacks vs Detroit City Football Club, a team we followed back in our Michigan days.
Despite being the only ones in the stands yelling the old chant: “DC…FC” we had a great time sitting with other Vets who received tickets through the VetTix organization. The Switchbacks’ mascot, playing with some kids.A Switchbacks goal tied it all at 1 -1.In the 90th minute, Detroit scored for a 2 -1 DCFC victory. Thanks again to The Colorado Switchbacks and VetTix for a wonderful evening.
